Advocacy for Sixth Schedule to Ladakh

Dear All/ Anup Sir,

In this New Year, I wish you good health, success and happiness!

You all may already be aware that Ladakh was recently granted UT status by Sh. Narendra Modi ji. For this we Ladakhis are very grateful. However, in the absence of a Constitutional safeguard to protect our Identity, livelihoods, land, culture, language, tradition, ethnicity and so on and most importantly our fragile eco system (which is already difficult to maintain given the fast changing climatic conditions), there is growing apprehension and insecurity amongst all sections of Ladakh.

With the influx of people from outside, our demography will fast change and Ladakhis may get over run in numbers. We stand at approx. 350 thousand in population. Youngsters especially feel that they are staring at a bleak future with little or no job opportunities. Our means of livelihoods in terms of employment or businesses will be snatched away. 

In this regard, may I request you to please advocate for inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of Constitution in your network?
