Dear All,
When I applied to Maharashtra Government for permission for MPH at SRM. My authorities told me that, MPH from SRM is not recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI). While studying MPH at our institute, I could observe that most of the subjects or modules are not related to clinical science and MCI has no role in public health subject.
According to my information Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram - 695 011, Kerala, India claims that MPH degree awarded by this institute is recognized by MCI.
Qualifying criterion for admission for this MPH is Any Graduates.
But according Post Graduate Medical Education Regulation, 2000. For MCI recognized PG, the candidate must posses recognized degree of MBBS. (or its equivalent recognized degree)
Same institute awards off campus MPH at The National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE), Chennai.
At NIE, Chennai qualifying criterion for same PG Degree is different. Only MBBS qualified candidates are admitted in this institute.
As per MCI rules medical degree/ diploma course are not permitted by off campus mode. Still SCTIMST is awarding MPH at NIE by off campus mode.
Kindly find information received from MCI under RTI for your reference and further action.
According to my view MPH degree awarded by UGC recognized University has equivalent value and importance through out country.
