Not sure this is helpful, but to run service mode (on WIndows at least), you run the game, then open a second command prompt, run your vm, and type:
mpf_service

From there you can trigger coils, etc.  Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for!

Have you added service to your list of modes and added a service_door_open switch? See https://docs.missionpinball.org/en/latest/examples/service_mode/index.html for an example configuration.

i have added the switches and can activate service mode but i get a black screen, no items. when i press enter en up and down is seems like  i am navigating thru the service mode but i have nothing on my screen ( when i push 2x enter i have to push 2x esc to get back out o f service mode so it seems like i am blind navigating). is there something more to setup  screen wise?

I struggled with this as well, not sure how it's meant to work, also got everything blind and the events are happening when I use the keyboard shortcuts so it works, only that it's blind.

I ended up copy the Mass Effect 2 pinball code for the service mode. Seems to work.

I figured this out. You need to add 2 modes to the modes list in your config: service and service_dmd. Both modes will be active simultaneously. The service mode fires the events for the menu selections, the service_dmd mode detects the events and displays the info on the screen. The yaml for service_dmd is already included in the mpf source code, you just have to list it as an available mode.
