What os / version to install with P-ROC?

Hi. I have now continued my PZ-project that has been on hold for over five years. I have P-ROC and I had MPF 0.55 running on Ubuntu. Ubuntu-machine is not usable anymore, and I need a new computer for project. 

I managed to install (with a help of this forum, instructions on MPF documentation are not up-to date) 0.57 on my M1 Mac, and got got my config files updated and running fine in virtual. But I was unable to install P-ROC drivers following MPF instructions, and when searching this forum and some googling it now seems that P-ROC might not work with newer versions.

What would be the easiest set of hardware / os / MPF version to continue my project with? It would be great if I could find working combination with clear installation instructions.

I recently installed xubuntu 24.04 minimal (python 3.12) and MPF 0.80 with p3-roc drivers using a combination of the instructions in this post  as well as the instructions here on a mini-pc.  It did take a bit of fiddling around, likely due to me not knowing linux to get everything working. it should work for 0.57 just as well.
