What is the best practice to get a truly great ripping sound from a solid spinner hit?  I love the one in Pulp Fiction.

Is this just about picking the right short sound and then playing each spin simultaneously?

I was thinking that a perfect one would actually track the time difference between each spin and then elongate the sound effect duration as the spinner slows down.  This could really shape the sound to the actual profile of the hit.  But I don't know how to do that yet.

I don't have an answer for you, but I do recall hearing Chris Granner mention spinner sounds in a recent wedgehead pinball podcast (the first of the two with him). it may have some insight for you. Chris if you are not familiar did a lot the sound packages of the classic bally/williams games like twilight zone, addams family and on into newer sterns  https://wedgeheadpdx.com/podcasts/
