WS2811 7 Segment Display

This looks really cool as a tradition 7 segment display. Only 3 wires 5vdc, Ground and data.

I need a bit more education on this topic, Are there available boards built for sale that have 6 digits or 7 digits that can be used in home brew ?

The guys at FAST pinball made a 7-segment display with full RGB coloring, it's being used in the new Fathom games made by Haggis. I don't know if/when they'll be available for sale (not listed on the website) but you could drop them a line? https://fastpinball.com/contact

Cobra also has a serial 7-segment display. He send me one. I will show it in one of the next stream. Probably saturday in a week.

There are lots of seven segment displays that use the SPI interface with TM1637chips but WS2812  might / would be better suited to our needs.   I guess it wouldn't be impossible to create your own board using standalone WS2811 chips and a conventional seven segment led display - 2 and 1/3 WS2811 chips per digit.

when thinking of how OPP could drive seven segments displays.    I did not get any as Lisy handled what I wanted to do with my existing displays.

The cobra segment display is exactly that. WS2811 chips connected to segment displays. I guess that one will be available soon.

Yep, tune in to Jan's Twitch stream hopefully next weekend. The displays I am making are monocolor displays driven by the WS2818 (a more fault tolerant version of the WS2811). Color options are Red, White, Blue, Orange, Yellow, and Green. I think I sent Jan a red and a blue of the first prototypes. So they are not RGB, but they are 16-segment alphanumeric. The pictures that I see from Haggis' Fathom are only 7-segment, but they are RGB.

My displays are 7 digit and can be arranged to make a larger continuous display. Production is still months out due to the lead time on production quantities of raw segment displays. I should finish my CobraPin deliveries in the next few weeks and can focus more on this. Let me know if you have to get your hands on some for beta testing.

Each display is the equivalent of 42 pixels, so you can drive up to 6 displays using one of the two neopixel outputs on CobraPin. For driving with fadecandy, you would use one display per output pin since each output drives up to 64 pixels.
