MPF-MC: Widgets not resetting correctly

My understanding from the documentation: When you add a widget within a mode it gets removed when the mode ends.

My game has multiple "screens", each it's own mode, everything uses the main display slide.  On the first screen of my game there's a door you open.  The door is an animated gif without looping, persist is not defined (default: false).  4 frames, 1st frame is fully closed, 4th frame is fully open.

The mode it's associated with ends when you move to the next screen.  If you go back to the screen (restarting the mode) the door is still "open".  I can live with this.

When the game ends and you start a fresh game the door is still open.  I was expecting everything to fully reset.  Seems like the widget is not getting fully removed when the mode ends or is persisting when it shouldn't.

Thoughts?
