Worth repeating - An Indian Prayer

I experienced a near death experience at age 25, I will be 62, it
changes you, forever. Death is a part of life and is not to
be feared. I think what we fear is incapacity, as in a major
stroke requiring a caretaker, or being locked inside the body
as with ALS and suffering with a feeling of suffocation.

Or intense pain, as in a death by fire.

I hope we all will have a good death.

Do what you can to forestall death with good medical and
lifestyle choices and be calm as death approaches. Have the
presence of mind like Mahatma Gandhi, after he was fatally
shot, he meditated in the last few remaining minutes as his
life ebbed away. Gandhi dedicated his life to the wider
purpose of discovering truth. Truth in Gandhi's philosophy was God.

I first posted these many years ago.

I thought perhaps others might enjoy or take some comfort
from these thoughts as I have.

An Indian Prayer

Oh, great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds
And whose breath gives life to everyone,
Hear me,
I come to you as one of your children.
I am weak..., I am small..., I need your wisdom
And your strength.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever
Behold the red and purple sunsets.
Make my hands respect the things you have made
And make my ears sharp so I may hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may understand
What you have taught my people and
The lessons you have hidden in each leaf
And in each rock.
I ask for wisdom and strength,
Not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able
To fight my greatest enemy, myself.
Make me ever ready to come before you with
Clean hands and straight eye.
So as life fades away as a fading sunset,
My spirit may come to you without shame.

Also worth reposting from years ago;

Jo Ann wrote: So, I live the best I can today, so if it is my
last, I did it the best way I could. I follow my dr's advise,
keep up on the new things and plan for tomorrow, but live today.

And I wrote,

Dear Jo Ann,

One of the best sayings I ever heard was an Indian
expression, "Hoka Hey," "Today is a good day to die... Brave
hearts to the front.. cowards to the rear.. " Crazy Horse

If you are prepared to die today, really prepared, you can
then live life to its fullest today.

And finally, another inspiring Indian saying,

When I was born I cried and the whole world laughed.
When I die, may the whole world cry while I laugh.

Warm regards to all,

Robert
