2023 WRF & MPAS Users' Workshop - Call for Abstracts

Dear MPAS-Atmosphere Community:

The Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory of NCAR invites you to attend the Joint WRF and MPAS Users' Workshop from June 20 - 23, 2023. The event will be held in-person at the NCAR|UCAR Center Green campus in Boulder, Colorado, as well as virtually (online).

The primary objectives for the Users' Workshop are to provide updates for WRF and MPAS modeling systems, to discuss model development and issues, and to present evaluations and applications of the two models. This year we especially seek contributions on development and application using the MPAS model:

      1) MPAS model and MPAS/DA development updates
      2) MPAS applications in high-resolution global and regional predictions
      3) New Physics development
      4) MPAS/WRF model comparisons

Authors may request either a poster or an oral presentation; however, we encourage authors to consider submissions for a poster presentation due to time constraints for oral sessions. Note that the poster session will be entirely in-person.

In addition, we will offer short tutorials on Friday related to our new development. Details will be updated in a later email.

During the workshop, the Multiscale Infrastructure for Chemistry and Aerosols (MUSICA) Project would like to organize a side meeting to seek community input to the project. More information can be found at https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/events/musica-side-meeting-june-2023 .

April 26: Abstract due.
May 15: Full registration to attend the workshop opens.

This is a reminder that the abstract submission deadline for the WRF and MPAS Users' Workshop is this Wednesday, April 26.

Here are a few updates for the workshop:

1. There will be two mini tutorials on Friday for MPAS and MPAS-JEDI.
2. The registration fee for attending in person is $250, and $100 for those who attend virtually. The fee will be $50 for US university students.
3. Blocks of hotel rooms will soon be made available at the Residence Inn (next to the meeting venue) and Hilton Garden.
