Dear MPAS-Atmosphere Community:
The NSF NCAR Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology (MMM) Laboratory invites you to this year’s Joint MPAS/WRF Users' Workshop on June 22–26, 2026. The event will take place at the NSF NCAR | UCAR Center Green campus in Boulder, Colorado, with a virtual attendance option.
The primary objectives of the workshop are for developers and the scientific community to provide updates on the MPAS and WRF modeling systems, to discuss model development and issues, and to share progress in novel applications and evaluation. This year, we are especially seeking contributions on the following topics related to MPAS and WRF:
- Model developments and updates, including improving model performance and efficiency;
- Data assimilation developments and updates for global/regional applications, including assimilation of new observations;
- New or improved physics, physics infrastructure, and scheme evaluation;
- Applications that include coupling to other modeling components;
- Applications that enhance operational forecasting and seasonal prediction capability;
- Applications of AI/ML methods using MPAS and/or WRF.
Authors may request either an in-person presentation (poster, oral) or a virtual oral presentation (note: there will be no virtual poster presentations). In addition, we will host a series of short lectures on Monday afternoon and also mini-tutorials on Friday related to (i) aerosol interactions/processes using MPAS-GOCART2G and (ii) mesh generation capabilities for MPAS. There will be discussion opportunities throughout the workshop on topics of model development and infrastructure, and of the future transition of MMM development and active support of WRF to MPAS.
The abstract submission deadline is April 15, 2026.To submit an abstract, and for registration information, please visit the workshop website: https://www.mmm.ucar.edu/events/workshops/wrf-mpas .We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!
With kind regards,
The MPAS/WRF Users' Workshop Organizing Committee
