Hello,

I am currently running MPAS to study the Arctic region.  I am using the variable-resolution mesh of 60-15 km and putting the higher resolution mesh in the Arctic.  When plotting the 60-15 km mesh, there are undulations in the transition zones in the mesh (See attached figure).  The higher resolution area is not a perfect circle but an oval-like circle.  I was wondering if the mesh could be regenerated with a perfect circle instead of an oval shape for the higher resolution area? This means when looking at the standard image of the 60-15 km mesh on the mpas website (attached below as well) expanding the north/south part of the oval to make the circle symmetric?  I know this would increase the mesh size but it would be benifical for me to have the uniform transition zone.

Thank you,
Chris Riedel

Hi, Chris.

In case it meets your needs, I've just added a download link for a 60-10 km variable-resolution mesh that we've been using for simulations over the Antarctic. You can take a look at this mesh by going to the MPAS homepage (https://mpas-dev.github.io/) > MPAS-Atmosphere download > MPAS-Atmosphere meshes . If for any reason this mesh wouldn't work for your purposes, please don't hesitate to respond to this post.

Kind regards,
Michael
