Curious about the Creative Commons license. Does it apply to just Mozzi,
or is it also viral? In particular, does the non-commercial aspect mean
that I can't make my own version of Mozzi and sell it, or that I can't
incorporate it into commercial projects unmodified? Does share-alike
mean I also have to license my own project under this same license, or
that I can't relicense Mozzi forks?

I may wish to make my project commercial at some point, although I'd
like to keep the hardware and designs open. Wondering if my use of Mozzi
traps me into non-commercial CC licensing, or if that just applies to
the Mozzi codebase?

Thanks.

The way I understand the license is that if someone wants to sell a product which includes Mozzi or a modified version of Mozzi in its distribution, they would ask permission and possibly we would negotiate an agreement.

On the other hand, you could sell something which works with Mozzi but doesn't include it in the distribution, so that people can access Mozzi or a modified version for free and use it themselves with your product.

This might give clearer answers... https://wiki.creativecommons.org/Frequently_Asked_Questions

One of the reasons I've licensed it this way (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License) is to protect against my work being sold unacknowledged as well as unpaid, as if it was the work of the people marketing it, which happened under GPL3.

Gotcha. So I don't necessarily need to license my own code under the
same share-alike CC license? I've never done an open hardware project
before and am still investigating my options.

Thanks.
