I am happy that FF 'remembers' where I like to put my downloaded files
(usually in my \download\ folder) so that I don't have to work my way around
the folder tree every time.

I think it would be an improvement if I could also choose a default folder
from which I upload files to websites such as Facebook and exercise logging
sites. I find it quite irritating that the file upload dialog always starts
at the 'desktop' from which it takes several clicks to reach the file to be
uploaded.

In short: I want to be able to choose the defauilt folder for file uploads.

Are any FF developers reading this? Do you think that's a reasonable request?

R.

As far as I can tell, this is supposed to work already. See
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524408

Thanks, Neil. Yes, with a new profile it does work as described in that
Bugzilla thread.

Now, apparently there's a way to disable that nice behaviour, as I seem to
have done just that, so I would presume there's a way to re-enable it. Can
anyone help me find it? I've looked in the Options and in about:config but
found nothing.

I don't know of an option to disable it, so for troubleshooting, I
suggest the following:

* Open two pages with upload widgets in different tabs or windows.
Pick a file from each widget in separate folders, then switch back
and see whether the first widget remembers its folder.
* Install the Tahoe Data Manager and filter on content preferences
to see whether the preference is getting saved.
* Maybe something is deleting the preference (an extension, or Clear
Private Data).
