Hey Panaggio!
Wow, how exciting. Great to hear that the Webmaker community in Brasil is
growing.
We'd love to learn how you will set up your collaborations and how we can
help. I think a number of countries and regions might be interested in
similar coordination.
One challenge Webmaker events face is that they are over in 1-2 days. The
learners have lots of fun, and they want to learn more, but the event is
over. They don't have anywhere to keep learning and making, and it's hard
for the mentors to stay engaged and keep improving their skills as well.
What if we had a network of Webmaker Clubs?
These could run very locally -- quite small in size but meet regularly at a
school or coffee shop. Like a kitchen table event every week. There would
be local organizers of the clubs, coordinated and coached by Webmaker
Mentors.
Here's how it could work:
* Train and support a regional community of Webmaker Mentors who are
interested to teach the web.
* Identify local schools and other organizations who are looking to improve
their web literacy. Matchmake among mentors and learners/orgs.
* Team up a pair of Webmaker Mentors in each school/org to coach new
leaders to be able to run activities locally and sustainably.
* Use the Webmaker Mentor network to share tips & tricks, teaching
resources, and other ideas to improve how the local clubs run.
This is a really fresh, half-baked idea, but it could be quite effective!
The Mozilla Uganda community is thinking about something like this. Would
love to hear what you all think.
