Hi, I'm a member from the webteam for Ubuntu Linux and we are rethinking
our download page, specifically modeling it after how the Firefox
website does it, because you do it best! If I'm on the wrong list, would
someone kindly point me in the right direction?
My big question is how do you choose a mirror when a user clicks
'download'? The Ubuntu website currently has a dropdown box of mirrors
that we would like to eliminate for the average user.
For choosing the file to download, I assume that is based on the user
agent string? If I'm wrong there, please enlighten me. :)
If you wouldn't mind, code speaks better than anything.

OpenSUSE did something similar, you can see it here:

It's a pretty basic guideline on how they got it up and running. I'm
sure if you contacted one of them they'd be able to help
