Does it happen only with mail containing attachment ?
Open Your Antivirus software , look at Quarantine folder . Does your
mails/attachments listed there ?
Send a mail with text file as attachment to yourself. Do you get same
problem ?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I've just sent 4 e-mails from Thunderbird 2 to
my gmail account

1 email with no attachment - OK
2 email with small txt file attachment - OK
3 email with large zip file attachement - not working
4 email with large zip file attachement with anti virus disabled - not
working

Any ideas

Thanks

Try sending the same zip file protected with a password.
It's Gmail policy to not allow certain file extensions as attachments.

As Arthur has mentioned , if you using Gmail account then its Gmail
specific problem.

Gmail most probably blocks any executable attachment and rar/zip
attachment .

Thanks guys - you're right. If I send a GIF or a DOC it gets through

Cheers

I'm back again - I still think there is a problem here. A colleague
can send zip files to his gmail account and I can from work using
Lotus notes - I think there must be a Thunderbird problem?

Cheers
