Hi,

In Firefox, you type about:config into the URL bar.
Works great. How does one do about:config in Thunderbird?

You sure that shortcut isn't added via an extension? Alt+C does nothing
here.

Alt-C (read that as hold the Alt Key, and press the "C" key, only) does
work on my system neither.
What is going on here?
I am using version 1.5.0.4 (20060516), which is the latest.

as everyone here has been saying alt+c does nothing, and its not
listed here as a keyboard shortcut:

therefore, as someone has asked, what extensions do you have.

Everybody hasn't said it doesn't work, Jim, Ekko Dielman and Tod & Margo
Chester have indicated it works just fine. Alt+C most definitely does
work in Thunderbird 1.5.0.4, and I have no extensions. Perhaps *you*
have an extension which is preventing it.

Hi Ann,

Does not work in a newly installed TB 1.5.0.4 and new profile, Windows XP.

It does however work in my actual profile which has Mr Tech Local
Install extension installed. Other extension also add an
"about:config" option:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1585/

Can you please check Tools | Extensions and confirm that the list is
empty. I'm curious to know why a blank profile with no extensions
exhibits different behaviour for some people.

is it possible that its a setting carried forward from a previous
installed extension?

Thanks
Ian

OK. I have so many extensions installed that it could well be one of these
extensions which installs this keyboard shortcut.

But elsewhere in the thread someone else posted an alternative route:

Tools -> Options -> General -> Config Editor. The button Config editor in
the General tab of the Options show a new screen which is called
about:config.

Another option is by clicking the config editor button in the general tab
of the Options (Tools -> Options -> General -> Config editor. That should
work even without any extension installed.

Yes, I am aware of Config Editor, was merely pointing out that Alt+C
does not work. And it doesn't work here on 8 boxes with 1.5.0.4 with NO

There is no "Config Editor" option under Tools -> Options -> General.
This again may be part of your MR Tech Local Install extension.

It could be that this keyboard shortcut only works if you have the MR Tech
Local Install extension installed. The config editor can also be found by
going to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General. You should see a button
with the text Config editor on it.

Alt-C doesn't work with TB is safe mode, and does work with
extensions. Conclude than an extension is providing the Alt-C
behavior.

Sadly, there don't seem to be a similar shortcut in at least some localisations. Using the french
version and this don't works.
Here, alt + C = affichage (display)

My conclusion is that it only works with the MR Tech Local Install
extension installed. I have this extension installed in both FF 1.5.0.4
English and TB 1.5.0.4 Dutch on XP SP2 and in both programs the shortcut
works.

No wonder Alt+C works.

So would it be that this shortcut only works in the Eng-US-version ? It
would be a shame if that would be the case. This means that apparently
only solution for the other localisations would be to install the MR Tech
