In Firefox, you type about:config into the URL bar.
Works great. How does one do about:config in Thunderbird?

The way it should be in FF!

You sure that shortcut isn't added via an extension? Alt+C does nothing
here.

therefore, as someone has asked, what extensions do you have.

wellllll - on my *OLD* TB1.0.7 I have the about:config extension and,

Hi Ann,
Does not work in a newly installed TB 1.5.0.4 and new profile, Windows XP.
It does however work in my actual profile which has Mr Tech Local
Install extension installed. Other extension also add an
"about:config" option:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1585/
Can you please check Tools | Extensions and confirm that the list is
empty. I'm curious to know why a blank profile with no extensions
exhibits different behaviour for some people.
is it possible that its a setting carried forward from a previous
installed extension?
Thanks

OK. I have so many extensions installed that it could well be one of these
extensions which installs this keyboard shortcut.
But elsewhere in the thread someone else posted an alternative route:
Tools -> Options -> General -> Config Editor. The button Config editor in
the General tab of the Options show a new screen which is called
about:config.

Another option is by clicking the config editor button in the general tab
of the Options (Tools -> Options -> General -> Config editor. That should
work even without any extension installed.
Ekko

The reason why it works with me might well be the MR Tech Local Install
extension I installed as suggested elsewhere in the thread. The
alternative which should work without any extension installed is clicking
on the Config editor button in the General tab in the Options. (Tools ->
Options -> General -> Config editor)

Yes, I am aware of Config Editor, was merely pointing out that Alt+C
does not work. And it doesn't work here on 8 boxes with 1.5.0.4 with NO
extensions installed and using only the installed default theme.
--- Original Message ---
It's under:
TOOLS => Options => Advanced => General
He left out "Advanced".
So noted.
Ekko

I should have said Tools -> Options -> Advanced. Still no button Config
editor ?
Ekko

You're right. I stand corrected.

using the default theme and NO extensions. The ball is back in your
court. Why is it working for you and not for Chris I and Jay -- which
are two guys who should know TB inside out.

It could be that this keyboard shortcut only works if you have the MR Tech
Local Install extension installed. The config editor can also be found by
going to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General. You should see a button
with the text Config editor on it.
Ekko

yes, all the Moz Champs and other helpers know where this button is.
The question is how can some of you get to the Config Editor by way of
ALT+C while others can't? And some say they don't have any extensions,
but they still get it.
The only thing I can find is this:
http://mozile.mozdev.org/0.6/docs/WWW/mozileKeys.html -- near the
bottom. And this: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/776/
Beats me. I'd say: try it and see for yourself which of the alternatives
suits you best.

in the "Editing" list. What "editing" function???

Alt-C doesn't work with TB is safe mode, and does work with
extensions. Conclude than an extension is providing the Alt-C
behavior.

Mozile is an extension for in-line editing of web pages.

Yah, figured that out shortly after posting ... :-(
Too bad. I've only used the english version up until now so I haven't
tested this with other localisations. Thanks for bringing this up though
for now we can be more precise by telling it should work in English
localisations.

My conclusion is that it only works with the MR Tech Local Install
extension installed. I have this extension installed in both FF 1.5.0.4
English and TB 1.5.0.4 Dutch on XP SP2 and in both programs the shortcut
works.
Ekko

No wonder Alt+C works.
Ann
>Alt-C does not work for me either. I use the en-GB version.
So would it be that this shortcut only works in the Eng-US-version ? It
would be a shame if that would be the case. This means that apparently
only solution for the other localisations would be to install the MR Tech
Local Install extension :-(

It doesn't work for me either. Neither C nor c. I'm running the linux
version and have the latest versions of the following extensions installed:
<deep breath>
Nightly Tester Tools
Talkback
Image Zoom
MessageID Finder
AboutConfig
QuoteColors
Correct Identity
Get All Mail Button
TB Header Tools
Folderpane Tools
Mnenhy
HTH. HAND.

Linux -- the ultimate freebie!
Try adding the Mr Tech Local Install extension. One of it's features is
the Alt+c access for the Windows platform, do not know about other
platforms key combos. If yours is supported the key stroke shortcut
should be indicated through the Tools Menu dropdown/flyouts.
