I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.

I just updated to Thunderbird 24.0 (was 17.0.8). In the process,
Thunderbird alerted me that my current version of Lightning was not
compatible and suggested that I install Lightning 2.6. I accepted.

Now all my calendar events have disappeared! The same thing has
happened to two other desktops OF MINE. (Unfortunately, I did not
notice the problem right away as I would not have updated Thunderbird on
all three computers...)

Is there any way to recover my calendar events?

NO, I DID NOT BACKUP BEFORE DOING THE UPDATE AND, YES, I DID REBOOT
AFTER IT!

Same thing happened to me. I got it working properly by updating the
"Provider For Google Calender" to version 0.25. Look in "Tools"->"Add
Ons"->"Extensions" and make sure that you have the most current version
(0.25).

Are they Google calendar events using the CalDAV protocol?

See <https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/>

Bob, thanks for your reply but I do not understand what you are saying.
My Thunderbird is not linked to Google's calendar (I don't even have a
Google account!) and I have never had a "Provider For Google Calendar"
as an add-on.

The calendar I am converned with is Lightning 2.6 which is a Thunderbird
add-on and the events that are missing are those that I have manually
created using Lightning within Thunderbird.

No, the events I am talking about were manually created by me. (File ->
New -> Event...)

I am sure you checked this but is just the thing I would not check.

Did your calendar get unchecked in the upgrade?

The location of the options is in the right pane of the tree calendar
panes, the one with the month calendars.

That stinks. No problems here and all my events are manually created.

In the calendar tab is does your Home calendar in the Calendar list have
a check mark?

Have you looked in your calendar-data folder in your Thunderbird
profile to see if your data (think it's called local.sqlite) is
still there?

I think this problem is better asked in mozilla.support.calendar. I've
cross-posted this message and set replies to this post to go there.

Keith, I do not see such option in the right pane. Are you talking
about the "Home" calendar option in the left pane?

Yes, I upgraded just now. It's a big jump from 17.0.8 to 24.0 but I see
no obvious changes.

If you move the cursor on the left edge of the calendar window, you
should see the double headed arrow. As it moves across the left edge,
you should see the arrow change, (On my setup the first double arrow
appears with a colored bar extending the length of the window) On the
first double hold the left mouse key down and drag toward the inside of
the window.

This should open the left window. The top of the new pane should be a
small calendar of the month and below that a listed of your calendars.

I have several with for different types of activities.
