This happens rarely but it does happen regularly. It is not easily
reproducible as I can not determine what causes it to happen. But it has
happened sporadically since TB 3.0.
Is this a known issue ? Is it perhaps caused by an add-on ? I am using
Walnut for TB as a theme, but I have been using it since TB 2.0.
I get that from time to time also. I wish there was some type of
redownload command.

Using Noia eXtreme here.
My guess is that it's caused by a hiccup between the exchange with the
server, and TB is not able to handle it gracefully.
Thanks for confirming it. I will report it on Bugzilla if it has not
already been reported.
It's an old bug first reported with Tb 0.8 and it happens in Tb 2.0.0.24 as
well as Tb 3.0.7pre. Check to see if the messages with the problem have
attachments. That has been a factor in the original bug. If this is
happening with text/plain messages, then it's a new issue.

Who is General Failure, and why is he searching my HDD?
Kernel Restore reported Major Error used BSOD to msg the enemy!
Then it's a new issue. Last time it happened was in one of these
support groups in a message from Ron Hunter. He doesn't send
attachments here.
I haven't seen the problem in a very long time. I think it had to do
with not having enough RAM. Now, with 4GB, that isn't a problem here.
Wasn't aware it was still causing trouble with the newer versions.
Ironically, it just happened on one of my own messages. RAM is not an
issue. It seems to be timing out, but TB never gives that message. It
just stops trying after awhile. My connection sucks today, so that may
have something to do with it, but still, TB should handle it more
gracefully than giving me an empty message pane and marking the message
as read. And I noted that the next message loaded immediately, as did
my own message when I pressed the B key.
I've noticed this too, and as you've stated it happens on occasion but
not very frequently. Sometimes I can't even get the message to show at
all. FYI I'm using the default theme for Thunderbird.

Not uncommon with me (3.0.6 Win XP/SP3, fast university LAN),
with no attachments in the messages, no error indications, no pop-ups.
I simply close the (separate, blank) tab and try again,
usually with eventual success.
