I have 3 problems actually:

1. Tabs are not restored after I close and open TB. This used to work
fine.

2. Settings are set to check each account at startup, but this doesn't
work anymore. Used to work fine. I tried several things, but none of
them seem to work.

3. In setting, when I check to check if TB is still default mailclient,
I get a pop-up every time I open TB to confirm it's still the default
mailclient.

When I uncheck this problem 3 is solved (?), but not 1 and 2.

(TB 68.6.0)

What tabs are not restored?

Mine opens to the default mail tab and the Calendar tab.

It is working for me.

Are these IMAP or POP3 accounts?

Do you also have Thunderbird set as your mail client in your operating
systems settings? What operating system?

I gather s|b means 'session restore'.

For me on Win 10 v68.6.0, whatever was 'open' when I exited is
restored on next launching, though normally I'd close message tabs and
return to my POP inbox only. And it's definitely still working that
way... just tested it multiple times with differing tabs/messages left
open.

I can't find anything in Tools/Options or about:config... always
thought it was a default which couldn't be altered. Anything in
<session.json> in my profile is w-a-y beyond my capabilities.

All tabs that were open when I closed TB: Inbox, Calender, certainb
messages that were opened/

That's what happened in my case, but for some reason not anymore.

Good for you.

This sometimes works on Windows, especially older versions. Worth a try,
I think. Also works for Windows options. Sometimes.

a) Uncheck all the options you have checked.
b) Shut down TB.
c) Restart TB.
d) check all the options you want.
e) Shutdown and restart TB.

Good luck.

1. is usually fixed by deleting session.json from the profile folder, while TB is closed.

2. is a bug related to Local Folders being set as the default account, or no mail account being properly set as default:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1584861#c40

3. In the System Integration section of Advanced Options, uncheck 'Always check to see...'.

Ah, thanks.

Just did some fiddling, and now see how it works... or doesn't.

Tnx, Steve. I've archived this just in case.

I think I have solved it. Last month I had to housesit at my mother's,
so I copied the Thunderbird folder

[C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird]

and installed Thunderbird Portable on a flash drive with that Profile
folder. I think there was an update. When I was back home I copied the
complete Thunderbird folder, opened TB and got a message about that
update. I think the updated Profile folder wasn't backwards compatible?

So today, I made a backup the entire TB folder, exported Calendar,
uninstalled TB, deleted the TB (User) folder, then copied TB folder from
an old backup (Feb 9) and then copied the mails from the backup I made
today

[D:\Backup\Thunderbird.20200402.broken\Profiles\*****.default\Mail]

installed TB again and imported ICS-file from the Calendar backup.

I know I'm not supposed to copy the MSF-files from the Mail folder, but
everything seems to work fine.
