I have been getting emails recently sometimes with little emojis if
that's the right name in the subject header. For example I received an
email from Opera this morning with an aeroplane emoji next to the subject.
Can these these be turned off ?
Thank you.

Not really, they're "just" unicode characters ...

I'm not aware of any way to do this inside of Thunderbird.

You /might/ be able to remove the font that is providing the emojis.
But that will likely leave a place holder for the glyph that wasn't
rendered.

Conceptually you can edit the message outside of Thunderbird (I don't
think Thunderbird has a way to do this). But that's going to be
somewhere between annoying and fraught with complications, including
local DKIM validation.

Thanks for the reply.
I've been using Thunderbird since "Outlook Express" was no longer
available for Windows operating systems.
Its strange that I have not had these emojis up until last month .
I wrote here in case they were some kind of beacon or malware.

Michael.

Try the Header Tools Lite extension.

ACK

I've seen a dramatic uptick in emoji's (and other UTF-8 characters) in
Subjects in the last few months.

Na. Much of where I see them are legitimate emails. Granted, some of
them are people testing things just to see how it works. But that's not
spam or malware.
