Hi,

I can tag a message via a filter. Is there a way to remove that tag via
a filter?

Example:
I tag all incoming messages: 'suspicious'.
I want to remove the 'suspicious' tag based on headers and/or content,
but that doesn't seem possible.

Rationale:
I can add an additional 'not suspicious' tag, but then they have 2 tags:
'suspicious' & 'not suspicious', but the result is not logically the
same as simply removing 'suspicious', is it? -- the 'suspicious' tag is
simply redundant.

By initially marking all messages 'suspicious', I'm trying to make the
filters that come next a WHITE LIST.
Otherwise the filters can only be a BLACK LIST.

There's a big difference between a WHITE LIST and a BLACK LIST.

So I ask: Is there a way to remove a tag via a filter?

Thank You,

Mark.

The FiltaQuilla add-on includes "remove tag" as a filter action.

Thank you, Chris. I'd sure like to see that in the standard TBird. I
can't rely on an add-on for such a mission critical function.

You really don't get Thunderbird, do you? Its major strength is the
abilty to personalise and customize via addons.

The author of FiltaQuilla, Junquilla and other fine addons happens to
be leading the current effort to keep Thunderbird alive, seeking a
new home, organising financing and technical development when we are
finally cut adrift from Mozilla. You probably couldn't find anyone
more dedicated to advancing Thunderbird.

I didn't know any of that. You seem surprised (or at least bothered,
irritated). How would I know any of that?

TBird needs people more than ever. And it needs subscribers. I will send
$20/month as a subscription if and only if, 1, it would help, and 2, the
development is professionally managed, and 3, the development has
milestones, and 4, I could influence what TBird becomes.

Are you part of this effort? Do you know how I can contact the organizers?

I think a subscription model based on crowd funding would be successful.
If people want feature "X", then crowd fund the development and
incorporation of feature "X". I think you would find it excites people
-- the achievement of goals would be rapid and visible. I also think
that many of the crowd would also subscribe.

Hmm. I'm not convinced about your logic here. If you *don't* tag
anything initially then you have your whitelist. You will of course
want to remove those that you deem fit for a blacklist.

Not with the current absence of a 'None' value for tags. The tags
offered by the filter dialog have numeric values assigned in ascending
order. A 'None' value would be '0' (zero)*

You might bother the devs with a bug reporting this omission - or
re-think you logic. :)

*Test: Highlight a tagged message then hit '0'.
