Hello Folks
My apologies- I did not supply enough info to my original post.
Have been using Thunderbird as my mail server for years. Love it. After recent upgrade I am getting a message on most (and now all) of my outgoing emails that says
Sending of message failed:
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.comcast.net timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.
I checked the forums on Thunderbird and the most likely candidate suggested that I try setting the outgoing mail server to No Authentication. I did so, but that didn't seem to help. This, and my previous email have been sent from my Comcast account which does not have an issue with outgoing mail. Setting between both servers appear to be the same. I had not made any adjustment to the preferences prior to start of issue. Did reboot wireless router just in case. Do own an iPad too.
Hope this helps to clarify and thanks for the amazing quick responses.....

While you are posting using a comcast.net address, you don't explicitly
say that provider is your problem. You could mean Yahoo or Gmail or some
other service...
If you do mean Comcast mail, go here and click on the "Verifying Outlook
Express settings" link. A 'window' will pop up in the middle of the page
[poor usability on Comcast's part!] and follow all the details for
Thunderbird's settings, which will be identical to Outlook Express.
The reason I think you may * not * mean Comcast email is that you sent
your email to this list, successfully -- and using the Comcast SMTP
which you say you are having "no success." Then again, you could be
posting from another computer ... you need to supply details.

Replying to your original thread would have worked, and you really should
provide error messages verbatim,
Change the SMTP port to 587 and make sure: My Server Requires
Authentication is checked.
This is for OE, but is the same for TB.
