I decided to bite the bullet and fully update my copy of Thunderbird,
despite all the extensions I'm going to lose when I do that.
Unfortunately, when I manually updated the program the highest version I
can get to is 60.9.1. Help/About Mozilla Thunderbird now tells me now
that "Thunderbird is up to date" and clicking on the "Check for Updates
doesn't result in my being able to go to version 68+. I'm on the release
update channel, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Am I missing something or can somebody explain what's going on here?

TIA.

AFAIK, auto-updates from 60.x to 68.x still aren't available yet, if you
want it, just run the full 68.2.1 installer manually.

You don't say what OS you have.

I have the same issue with Kubuntu. TB 68 will be standard with 19.10 but not yet available to lower versions. They, the devs, say they are working on it but............

You mean you got the update from 60.9.0 to 60.9.1 from Ubuntu?

I'm still waiting for Ubuntu to provide it here.

If you're on Windows (I'm on W10) and 'Release Update Channel', the
nag to update to 68.2.1 came to me about a week ago I let it go
through the process of updating, rather than my usual
uninstall/install the newest version manually.

I notice right now that 68.2.2 is available which I'll handle with a
fresh install.

No. Just 60.9.0 in (K)Ubuntu 19.04

Well, I found out what the problem was. I downloaded the installer,
removed the old version and installed 68. Now I'm fighting to see if I
can come up with workarounds for the extensions I lost.

Thanks anyway.
