I subscribe to maybe 40 or 50 RSS feeds. In order to make these more
manageable I have organised them into folders ("News", "IT", "Travel",
etc.) However the process of moving the feed into the folder is more
difficult that it needs to be.
Here is a typical process for subscribing:
1) Go to "Manage Subscriptions" and add feed
2) Figure out which folder the feed needs to be in and create
a subfolder with the same name as the original feed folder.
3) Move downloaded messages into the new folder
4) Go back to "Manage Subscriptions" and relocate feed to the new folder
5) Delete original feed folder to Trash
6) Delete original feed folder from Trash
Here is how I feel the process should work:
1) Go to "Manage Subscriptions" and add feed
2) Figure out which folder the feed needs to be in and "drag-n-drop"
the original feed folder to that folder.
In other words: if I move a folder which is configured to receive RSS
articles then the RSS configuration should be automatically updated to
put the feed in the new folder's location.
Thanks for reading! :)

The development community are aware of many of the RSS feed issues.
Because of the complexity for improvement they have been working on a
framework for a rework they want to target for a Tb 3.0 release near the
end of the year. One of the identified issues is an interoperability
with Firefox to improve adding new feeds to Tb. A rework will involve
the Accounts Setup Wizard and a potential feed engine replacement.
So keep the faith, the future of RSS in Tb has been set as a goal by the
senior leadership.

The drag-and-drop issue is definitely a problem, but: at the time you
subscribe, you can specify which folder to use right from the Add Feed
dialog. The drawback is that you can't create a new folder right from
that dialog, but if you remember to set the folder up before you click
the Add button, you'll be much closer to your desired result.
Forumzilla, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/133,
might help manage the process a little better for you.
