I just discovered that I have 1 GB of "nstmp" files in my profile under
\ImapMail\MyProvider.net\ (nstmp, nstmp-1, nstmp-2, ...) - each between
20 and 40 MB in size.

Are these "temporary" files? Can I delete them? Also the one without a
trailing number ("nstmp")?

Thanks!

Before that make it sure folders of that accounts are in good condition.
Occurrence of duplicating nstmp folders signifies that somehow Tb fails
to compact a folder of your account.

<http://kb.mozillazine.org/Nstmp_folders>

"Check to see which folder the nstmp folder is duplicating, and check
that the original folder is okay (e.g. compare number of messages in
"View -> Toolbars -> Status Bar"). If so, you can delete the "nstmp"
folder(s) by right-clicking it and choosing "Delete Folder" (or by
deleting the files in your profile)"

What are these instructions referring to?

* How to "check to see which folder the nstmp folder is duplicating"?

* How to right-click one a file (!) and choose "Delete folder"?

Comparing the content of nstmp file with rest of files in same folder.
You can do it in this way:
Open nstmp file in word editor.
Copy any arbitrary line from that file.
Use 'search functionality' of your OS to search for file which contains
that line.

You certainly can't do it from file explorer. But you can do it from Tb
interface.

The nstmp files appear in Thunderbird as folders? I somehow doubt that ...

I have seen it happen. Not in the current version, but in older ones.

I have seen it happen in this scenario: A user had to be without his
computer for a while (for a repair). Hence I copied his profile plus TB
portable to a stick. The user at some point in time switched on the
Write-protect switch accidentally without noticing it. He ignored the error
message of TB portable about working an write protected media. He did this
several times. By this he lost some mails which were fetched (POP3) and
deleted from the server, but not saved locally. And after some sessions he
hat a lot of those nstmp folders visible in the folder pane of TB. I guess
it was one for each session.

If anyone who sees this problem it would be great to have more
information in that bug.
