Is Earlybird just the code name of Thunderbird 18 Alpha release or of
all TB alpha releases?

Some sites are talking about Earlybird as if mozilla is going to release
it as a thunderbird-like email client for 64 bit o.s.

Please clarify.

Thanks.

Daily currently TB 19.0a1 is the Development build which gets updates
everyday.

Earlybird TB 18.0a2 is the Alpha release, and gets updates once a day.

TB 17.0b3 is the Beta, and was updated 3 times during this 6 week test
cycle.

TB 16.0.2 is the current Release until 20-11-2012, when Thunderbird 17.0
and Thunderbird 17.0 ESR are released.

<https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases>

The only change starting next week is the Beta (which 18.0 will become)
will not be a release for Thunderbird. We will be using Thunderbird 17.0
for a year, before the next release of Thunderbird 24.0 and 24.0 ESR.

<https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/New_Release_and_Governance_Model>

Firefox will continue rolling along with new releases every six weeks.

Earlybird is a "channel". Thunderbird has three channels that produce
non-official releases: Daily, Earlybird and Beta.

Daily builds are the very latest (last 24 hours) source code and may be
unstable at times.

Earlybird builds are the next level up in stability, every 6 weeks,
Earlybird gets the latest code from Daily. Over the next 6 weeks,
stability fixes are applied.

Beta builds are almost release worthy. They take the code from Earlybird
every 6 weeks and have another 6 weeks of stability testing and
improvements, at which point they'll be turned into a full release.

Via this system, we're taking the latest code and slowly exposing it to
more people allowing us to ensure stability by the time we release it.

Mark.

That page also has links to sites that are not officially Mozilla.

Seems the readers of that page don't know what Mozilla's domains are.

This is a good starting point if you are interested in testing Earlybird.
