I am unable to send email on either of my two computers. I get an error
message stating:

"Sending of message failed"
Unable to open the temporary file c:\docum......\TEMP\nsmail-2.tmp.
Check your "Temporary Directory" setting."

1. I cant find any info re the Temporary Directory setting and how to
change it.

2. Why is this happening, and what should I do? Deleting all the files
in the TEMP folder only helps for a little while.

(I hope I can send THIS)

sending of email and posting to a newsgroup requires two
different protocols. They have nothing related except maybe
when you compose a message, they both look a like.

Yes. That was obvious a few moments after I tried to post this message.
However, I still need an answer to my question about sending email and
the NSMAIL problem.

Does the email message you are tyring to send have an attachment or is it forwarded?
If so, the attachment might no longer reside in its original location giving the error message.
Just a poke in the dark on my part but I have noticed that TB somtimes names attachments, pictures or forwarded mesages nsmail....

I have the same problem when trying to send a message. I did check my
setting for 'Temporary Directory'. It exists and the program is
creating three files each time I attempt to send. The files created
are
nsmail-21.html
nsmail-22.eml (Don't know why this files is incremented one higher)
nsmail-21.tmp

Windows will not allow these files to be renamed or deleted even the
earlier version such as nsmail-18.tmp 0r html or eml.

Here is an example path to each of these files:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis Greer\Local Settings\Temp
\nsmail-16.tmp"

I just got the message to go out by putting BitDefender into "Game
Mode". I think not just a BitDefender/Thunderbird problem as I
installed BitDefender weeks ago and have not had this problem until
today. I uninstalled Trend Micro Internet Secuirty 2006 today (have
had the Trend Micro part turned off except for the firewall since
installing BitDefender. ) in favor of COMODO firewall (installed
today.) Disabling COMODO did not allow me to send the message.

All those nsmail-xx.tmp files remain and give the access denied error
when attempting to delete them.

Anyone have any ideas?

Make sure TB is *CLOSED* when trying to delete the files. If
it's open and using the files you won't be able to delete them.

Thanks, Ken. I did try that. After a reboot I was able to delete those
files.
