Have been using this addon for some time and was quite happy with it until I noticed today that some contacts are not syncing all fields.

Any suggestions on alternatives to syncing with Gmail contacts?

I would be very interested in this as well. I have also had recent problems. Some gmail contacts are not syncing at all for me. If there is no email address, it doesn't sync. I've posted on the gContactSync forum, but the "owner" of the add-on is not replying and hasn't posted anything for about 4 months. I'm not sure if he is still supporting it or not. He also hasn't replied to a private message I sent to him.

Thanks,
Bill

So I had a look at CardBook. It syncs everything but unfortunately QuickText variables don't read the fields so therefore I cannot use it.

That's strange, it's supposed to add "nobody[garbage]@nowhere.invalid"
as a fake email address for anyone who doesn't have one. No one else
tried to help you over there in the forum? What happens if you try to
create a brand new address book (use the EDIT ACCOUNT gContactSync menu
option)?

Nope. Doesn't do that.

I am not looking for support for the addon here. Just trying to find out what other options are being used to sync with GMail contacts.

Go to gContactSync > New Account

Follow setup wizard. (In version 3, there is an option to include contacts without an email address.)

Gary,

I see in the preferences that it mentions syncing, but I couldn't figure out any way to actually set up the sync to my gmail contacts. Can you help me out?

Thanks,
Bill

It does that for me; I have a ton of nobody@ contacts in my abook - you
must have them too, I mean, gContactSync must've been working before,
and if you have an Android phone then you probably have email-less
contacts in gMail.

As for options, I only know of something called GeneralSync which syncs
everything WITHOUT using something like gMail, find it here:

Disappointing that no one replied to you on the forum (well actually,
you replied to yourself). It's pretty quiet over there. Seems you are
running into the same problem you ran into before. Why not change sync
mode to full/sync-both-ways? It seems to be working fine for me, but I
haven't tested specifically just now to see if it is still working. I've
been syncing both ways since day 1 and it has never deleted all my
contacts or anything like that. If you are worried (as I was,) you can
export your contacts from gMail into a CSV file (as I did,) which you
can presumably re-import should things go wrong.

The new AB will not replace your old one, you'll just end-up with 2 of
the same in TB; just get rid of the old one if it turns out that the
sync is working ok with the new AB.

I vaguely recall this being there in the past, but have not seen it in some time.

I tried CardBook, and it synced just fine. And lots of extras that are not there in Address Book. However, it did not integrate with QuickText addon variables, which I use all the time.

Fortunately I found gContactSync 3.0.0a5, and the update works perfectly for me. So I am back to gContactSync.

Sorry to change the topic, but all of a sudden I can't see my postings in this thread. I can see that other people are getting them because they are replying to them and quoting them. Do I have a setting wrong? I can only see my first posting in this thread but I've replied three or four other times.

Thanks,
Bill

I'm trying CardBook now and it seems to work fine. I may try setting up a new AB and using SyncBack, but I've kind of lost interest in it since it isn't being supported.

I had a look at CardBook (thanks guys) and apart from the fact that I
think it looks really ugly (the screenshots on AMO) it seems to do a
lot, maybe even doing too much! I've kept the tab opened in my "Addons"
group, if gContactSync fails me too I'll try it out.

Does anyone now where I can get the latest beta version of gContactSync. I was using 3.0.0.0a8, but I can't find the beta again anywhere.

Thanks!
