Thunderbird Users

I have used Thunderbird since it started to import my Gmail messages
into Thunderbird.

Last week I suspect that I did something wrong to Gmail and now I get
the following Error message when I attempt to get my Gmail messages?

"Sending of password for user brian.handly did not succeed. Mail server
pop.gmail.com responded: Web login required:
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754"

I have not found a fix. Suggestions?

Did you do the Web login that was suggested in the support link?

Which version of TB are you using. If it is older, the build may not have
secure athentication Google expects now. A fix is visit Gmail and check
settings to activate the older connect authentication, or upgrade TB to
version 38.

Are you asking me, or CA Handly?

I don't use Gmail. Maybe you should respond to CA Handly's post.

Read the info at the gmail help link. It discusses the security issues
and the need to login to webmail with a captcha as well as sometimes
needing the settings for less secure.

Both of the issues and more mentioned by Ron & Walt are discussed with
helpful links from the gmail help support page referenced in the OP,
which redirects to:

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/14257?rd=1

If gmail's authentication becomes unhappy security-wise, it requires
solving a captcha at the webmail login to get the Tb client working
again. If gmail has a problem with the security features of the app,
the webmail settings may need to be set for lower security features. The
gmail help page and its links provide a wealth of alternative fixes to
the OP.

Handly's message is not on the Moz news server so I posted to the portion
of the thread I can read.

I read Handly's OP from the moz/giga nntp server.

But I understand the/your situation. I'm a bigtime 'trimmer' or editor
of my replies, so I probably would've handled the 'dilemma' differently
and trimmed Ron out.

To expand on the Google servers becoming unhappy... They got mad at
me a month or so ago when I forgot I was still connected to a work VPN
and tried accessing GMail through Thunderbird. Their security analytics
thought it was odd that I was logging in via IMAP from a different VPN,
shut down access from that computer (maybe via IP blocking?), sent an
email to my phone telling me an unusual log in was detected and to
verify that I was still in control of my account before it would let me
connect via Thunderbird again.
