I just made the move from the 3.04b to RC and had to give up the
Lightening extension with the advice that it would be added at some
point in the future. Just wondering if any of you have a guess as to
how long it might be? I know the wait for the 3.04 compatible version
wasn't bad.

And the answer is now. I just noticed the nightly build from last night
works! ;-)
OK Microsoft, you can definitely stop sending me suggestions that I look
into the new Office 2010. Now that I've discovered Thunderbird and with
a little help from Open Office, you're nothing more than a bad memory.

There are ways around the checks. Mozilla has made it harder, recently,
but one can still get around the checks. I don't know if Lightening is
one of those which WILL work with 3.6RC1 or not, but all of mine seem to
work just fine, EXCEPT for Compact Headers 1.0, which is SUPPOSED to be
for 3.6RC1, and doesn't work.... Darn strange.
