I am stuck in problem. Searched a lot in most of the possible forums but
all are in-vain.

My problem is that:

When I send mail using any smtp server (smtp.gmail.com,smtp.example1.com,
smtp.example2.com) I am getting sending mail then mail server connected
successfully then sending login information then login succeed then
delivering mail and goes upto 83% (sometime upto 84%,99%,43%,79%) and then
returned with error Sending of message failed.

The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server
smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.

The problem persists with or without attachments.

I am unable to send any message but can receive messages.

I am using Thunderbird for some 3 years and I am getting it in Thunderbird
8.0 for two weeks

I am able to receive mails using POP3 as well as IMAP.

OS: Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric).

Thunderbird 8.0

Internet: Mobile broadband( dynamic IP).

DNS: OpenId (208.67.222.222, 218.248.240.179)

So please help me out as I am annoyed due to that problem

are you using a firewall? dump contents and view settings for smtp ports.

have you;

disabled extensions?
checked port and security settings?
checked to insure that send settings for agents are correct?
checked password manager to see if your smtp passwords are correct?
set up a new user to see if you can send email?
[do not copy files to new, setup from scratch]

did problem start when upgraded system? or later?

did problem start when upgraded thunderbird? or later?

do you see anything related in error console?

Yes. All the extensions have been disabled.

Port and security settings are fine and according to the server directives.

checked to insure that send settings for agents are correct?

All the credentials were fine and every-time I have setup a new user
instead of using the same profile

I have also tried to free disk cache allotted for Thunderbird.
I have a fresh installation of the Ubuntu 11.10(Oneiric). Nothing related
was seen in the error console except this:

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgFolder.getStringProperty]" nsresult: "0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame ::
chrome://messenger/content/folderPane.js :: getSmartFolderName :: line
2471" data: no]
Source File: chrome://messenger/content/folderPane.js
Line: 2473

Now I have disabled the Opendns and it get working while previously Opendns
was active and the Thunderbird 5.0 was working fine. Infact the browsers
are taking a lot of time to redirect to the mail servers.

So I think the main culprit was the Opendns dns cacher.

Now I have returned to my normal working style of Thunderbird. It is
awesome and great stuff from the Mozilla team.

And also the support I have got from the list is great and appealing as you
all have try to respond in real-time.

Again thanks for the kind support.
