How can I prevent Ctrl+W from closing Thunderbird?

I frequently use Ctrl+W to close tabs in Thunderbird but I don't want it
to close the application, only open tabs. When I have many email tabs
open I frequently press Ctrl+W once too often and accidentally close the
application, and then have to wait ages for it to reopen, which is
infuriating. Is there any setting I can change to prevent Ctrl+W from
closing the entire application?

Rightclick on leftmost tab, and select `close other tabs`

However, if you have the Calendar tab open and don't want to have to
reopen it, select that tab and right click > Close Other Tabs.

Go to about:config and toggle the pref
browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false.

you can change a setting in config editor to prevent TB from closing
when closing the last tab.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/config-editor
in the search bar in config editor, enter:
mail.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab
the default value setting is true. double click on it to change the
value to false.

Many thanks, that worked.

That's a nice workaround and worth remembering, thanks - but I still
don't want Ctl+W to close the application. However, changing the setting
in config editor as described by eisneun fixed that.

Thanks, that's helpful too.
