Otherwise, Thunderbird still works fine: I just can't access the Inbox
or download emails as I suspect they have nowhere to go.
Is it possible to create a new Inbox whilst not losing what I have in
the other folders? Or can I save them somewhere else so I can access
them from there, delete the existing copy of Thunderbird and start
from scratch?
Any help very gratefully received.
Cheers
hope you have a backup. or, it's a Global Inbox for pop acounts and you
set the accounts to not delete messages on the server.

I used Mozbackup a couple of months ago, but it now tells me the
Thunderbird backup is not valid so won't restore.
If restoration won't work, is it possible to send the contents of an
entire stored folder on Local Folders to say a Gmail account, and I
can download them and store again after I delete my existing
Thunderbird and reload from scratch?
I transfer messages to and from GMail all the time. Other than the
bandwidth/transfer time, you should have no issue.
Make sure you set up your gmail as an IMAP account, and just drag them
over. I would create a dedicated folder on your gmail account to drag
them too... but it'll be simple otherwise.
Thanks for the tip. I have the Gmail IMAP enabled, but I've tried
every method I know of bulk moving them and nothing seems to work.
Is there an Idiot's Guide to this somewhere, or any brief tips/
directions you'd care to share?
So far I've spent the last few hours transferring many manually, one
at a time to Gmail, but it's not a lot of fun.
Cheers
Bert
Got it sorted.
After xferring a heap of emails to Gmail manually, I deleted TBird,
then reloaded it from a fresh download of 3.1.7 stored on my HD. I
lost nothing but a few emails from the inbox at the time, but they
weren't anything important.
I just tried selecting multiple emails (shift + click on first and
last in selection) and then dragged them to a GMail folder... They
copied over without a hitch.
Were you trying to drag an entire folder over?
But, I'm glad you got it sorted! The very idea of losing so many
emails is frightening!
