Thanks, Jeff
Sorry.
The "Toolbar Buttons" extension has a "Mark" button you can put on the
toolbar. I tried it out and it cycles between marking what you have
selected as being read and then being unread each time you press it.

Go to Mozdev at <http://www.mozdev.org/> for quick access to
extensions for Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and other
Mozilla-related applications. You can access Mozdev much
more quickly than you can Mozilla Add-Ons.
Here's a far better solution: Cmd-Shift-C marks everything in a
particular folder or NG read. Takes .6 seconds, and of course, those
keyboard commands need translating if your on a PC.

I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm
not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
There is a Mark button inherent in the vanilla Thunderbird (Tbird
without any extensions). If you don't see it, right-click on the
toolbar and select Customize in the pull-down menu. You can
drag-and-drop buttons between the Customize Toolbar window and the
toolbar itself.

you mean the Mark icon or is "Mark As Read" a new TB3 thing?
the Mark button has been around forever - well, for a while anyway...
they make an extension to tie your shoes for you???
