Create a brand new custom column in TB inbox?

I'm using Thunderbird 3.1.7 on Windows XP.

I'd like to create a new column in my Thunderbird inbox, to be called
"Envelope-to". I'd like it to display the contents of the Envelope-to
header that each of my inbound emails contains. Of the 18 standard
available columns, none meets my need.

Can I create a new custom column in my Thunderbird inbox?

I don't think that can be done without the use of an extension; and I
don't know of any extensions that will allow you to create a new column,
or add one for "Envelope-to".

On the other hand, for comparison and ideas,
the "Extra Folder Columns" extension adds particular columns
(or _restores_ columns that existed in earlier TB versions)
specifically to the "Folders" pane,
although not to any "message list" pane:
