Threaded Date Sort Order - TB3

The Threaded Date sort order seems to be broken. I would have assumed
that the Date sort would be based on the first post in a thread (I think
it as that way in TB2), but it looks like the sort is done by whatever
is the latest post in any thread. When the threads are closed this makes
the sort order look ridiculous. Is it this way by design?
