Check your settings: View, Messages, All
If that doesn't work, then compact the folders [under File]
If that doesn't work, then close the program and delete the *.msf file.
The messages are stored in the file without an extension. The .msf
file are indexing files.

STOP! If he compacts, the files will be gone forever. At least you can
change the delete bit as it is now to get the other files back (I did
this long ago in Netscape to recover deleted mail). I suppose it should
still work.

Anti-spam measures are included in my email address.
Delete NOSPAM from the email address after clicking Reply.
then make a copy of those files just in case.

Well and good, but not mentioned in the reply I responded to. Can't
assume anyone would do that if they were reading their instructions from
within the same program they were about execute those instructions on.

Checked. 'All' messages are viewed.
> If that doesn't work, then compact the folders [under File]
I compacted the 'sent' folder exclusively, and than all folders in the
current acount. It did not work.
> If that doesn't work, then close the program and delete the *.msf file.
I deleted the indexing file (having its copy aside). A new one was
generated by TB: an empty one, with a header inside (kind of a
"dictionary table" at the top). Sent messages did not come back.

Is there any tool to re-index stored messeges?
I am about to update my TB to 2.0 version. Maybe the latest version
will help...
Thank for your reply

Before I followed the instructions, I had copied all the profile
directory. How foolish I had not copied it before running the filters!
A moment ago I read restoredemail.html. I opened 520-MB file in NSP
notepad, however only half a million lines were opened, that is ca.
28MB of 520MB. I changed X-Mozilla-Status accordingly and truncated at
the end of the last entirely included email. Then I copied the renamed
file to TB directory and...
IT WORKS!!!
I have 211 emails retrieved! With attachments and so, however up to
2005 year only, for now. So I need a better notepad to do the same
with the entire 520-MB file. Do you recommend any?
Another question:
The retrieved new folder 'earlySent' contains 211 emails. They are
listed: Subject Sender Date etc. The sender was me (this was the SENT
folder!) How can I display the recipient instead of the sender in this
particular folder?
It's 4:20 am, so see you (read you) tomorrow.
Thanks very much for your help.
Goodnight.

Hi BeataR,
Sorry I called you "he". Glad to hear you had a backup. Nice to hear
you were able to retrieve your emails also.
Although I haven't used it myself, metapad is a good one for your use:
http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/
Maybe the Sent folder is keyed for recipient instead of sender. Can you
select the far right header (with the down arrow) and add Recipient to
your headers?
> Sorry I called you "he".
It is OK. You never know he or she in writing.
> Although I haven't used it myself, metapad is a good one for your use:http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/
I have installed metapad full 3.51.
It opened succesfully 28-MB file produced by NSP notepad earlier,
however metapad failed with opening of 520-MB file.
I use Windows XP Proffesional + Service Pack 1 running on Pentium4
(3GHz) with 1GB RAM. So it rather could not be the memory shortage.
An illegal memory access violation occurred with Error Code:
0xc0000005.
Event viewer log says:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application
Faulting Application: metapad.exe
Faulting Module: metapad.exe
Event Category: None
User: N/A
Event ID: 1000
Fault address: 0x00005103
I am so desperate with this retrieval, that I installed another
notepad with no limits in a file size.
Namely Notatnik+ 2.6
[http://programy.pctips.pl/pobierz/pc/1831.html] -in Polish, but 'find
and replace' is easy in any language [http://www.poltran.com].
The file was loading for several seconds and finally stopped with a
message:
Error number: 203
Fault address: $00001D99 (no memory).
Propably I shall be the one who checks all available notepads in the
world ;-)
And I will try the same on other machines. If I succeed, I will let
you know, i.e. the successful notepad name.
Another way to solve the problem is to devide the huge file into
smaller ascii parts (say: 20MB each), even cutting through a middle of
a single email to paste later. One can manage with many retrieved
folders in TB. I will also look for such a program - "a chopper".
Thank you, Terry
for your help

Helpful Terry's instructions:
http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/restoredelmail.html
-------------------------
Changing of X-Mozilla-Status is working as long as a mail content file
can be opened in a text editor with 'find and replace' options. I was
not that lucky :-/
I was experimenting with the new version.
I installed TB 2.0 and performed a procedure of "rebuild index" on the
renamed mail file. The renamed mail file was recognized by TB 2.0 as
an empty folder. Then: [Folder properties >> General Information tab
>> Rebuild Index button]. And nothing new. So the rebuilding of the
file index will not do (in my case).

Though I have not tried it on LARGE mailbox files, you might look at:
http://apveening.speedlinq.nl/software/tbrststs.zip
It takes a little of playing around with to figure out how it works.
in short - WITH TB CLOSED:
1. Download zip file
2. Unzip to a NEW folder
3. Copy UNCOMPACTED file to the SAME new folder.
4. Rename the copied file to "Recovered mail"
5. Run "tbrststs.exe" on "Recovered mail" file
6. This will create "Recovered mail.MBX" file in the same directory.
7. Rename "Recovered mail.mbx" to "Recovered mail-1" ( NO extension)
8 Copy back to original file location.
9. Open TB and "Recovered mail-1" should be there
Only works on UNCOMPACTED files.
