Windows XP Pro SP3
Thunderbird 7.0.1

Starting this morning, I started getting "Alert" popups:

An error occurred during a connection to pop3.live.com:995.
security library failure.
(Error code: sec_error_library_failure)

I had been running 6.something when I started receving the messages but
they continued after I moved up to 7.0.1.

Fetching the mail from the server manually (and automatically most
times) works fine.

So, what do I look for?

Just started receiving this message. Using Windows 7 and Thunderbird
3.1.13. One possible cause: just a little while ago, I added a
certificate so that I could view a PDF on an .edu website. But that was
in Firefox 3.6.22, not Thunderbird. So, I dunno, maybe I'm confused.
Here's what I see in Firefox > Tools > Options > Advanced tab >
Encryption > View Certificates > Servers tab:

Certificate name: (Unknown) (Not stored)
Server: dpsace.lib.iup.edu: 8443
Lifetime: Permanent

Just now, I've deleted that certificate. Don't know yet if that will
keep the error from recurring.

I have been getting the same error the last two days with Thunderbird
7.01 and Thunderbrowse 3.8. I would be interested in any solutions
anyone has. Thanks.

I think the problem is at Microsoft's (live.com) end, since the errors
only show up on those connections and my 2 ISP accounts are configured
identically.

Not seeing this problem in TB 7.0.1 with either of my 2 hotmail
accounts that use the same pop3.live.com:995 server.
Temporary or geographical glitch?

I starting getting the same and am using SM 2.4.1 so it must be on the
other end.

Let add another case. I started getting this message yesterday (7th
October). I have two email accounts, one hotmail and one from my ISP,
I can send and receive email on both accounts but two emails sent from
different people to my hotmail account have so far appeared 60+ times
each.

I have Windows 7 64bit and Thunderbird 7.0.1.

During your last browser viewing of hotmail, did you log out, or just
close the browser while still logged in? I made that error with my ISP
webmail interface and got lots of dups during my next access with TB.

I only use Thunderbird to access the hotmail account these days. I
found this problem has also been seen by MS Outlook and on Macs and I
tried a solution found on one of those threads. I went to -
Tools
Account settings
Server settings (for the
hotmail account)

uncheck 'Leave message on server' box

I did this 24 hours ago and so far it seems to fix the problem which,
as someone on this thread pointed out, seems to be with Windows Live.

I very much doubt that 'Leave message on server' has got anything to do
with the troubled certificate. It may be coincidence that it was fixed
at the time you changed the setting.

I started getting this same issue too. Can't confirm it was definitely
at the same time as a thunderbird upgrade or not - also, hotmail is
the only account I have set for POP, everything else is IMAP.
