QuickFolders (Folder Tabs) 1.5pre2
by Alexander Malfait, Realraven (Axel Grude)

I chanced upon this add on and found it so convenient that thought to share info about it with you all.

On installing, it creates a bar below the TB toolbar and you can just drag drop any folder name from the left pane to this bar and it acts as a cue to that particular mail folder (it doesn't work on ng folders). When you click on any folder name tab that you have put in this tab bar, that folder opens in TB as if you had clicked on that folder thru right pane. You can even link keyboard to these folder and pressing that would open that folder. folder names with unread mails appear in bold to draw your attention. It is very intuitive and very useful.

It is already very convenient. depending on the width of your tb window, if you have less number of folders, you might save all the folder names at this bar, and then just close or at least shrink the left folder tree pane to save precious screen space.

I appreciate the developer for conceiving and implementing such a useful tool.

Enjoy.

I must be missing something. How is this more useful than just clicking
on the folder in the left pane (which also shows when you have unread
mail, including how many)?

This is my favorite add on as well. It is very useful for people who
have small screen space (by 2009 standards). So I do not need to see
the folder pane on the side and I can read more of my emails.

More useful if you have some mail folders among many that you use often.
For example, when I am done reading a NG, I can then just click on the
folder that I put up in the Quickfolders toolbar and immediately go to
it, rather than scroll up to it and then click on it.

Basically, it saves a lot of scrolling time if you happen to either have
a lengthy tree in the left pane or a lot expanded.

Plus you can color the tabs and the background on the Quickfolders
toolbar, which aside from eye candy (which, IMO, is fluff when it's not
functional), and it draws your attention to the tabs and reminds you
that you don't need to scroll all the way up to that folder to access it.

This feature will be stock in Thunderbird 3.0. The add on will be short
lived, I guess...

When I was younger, I could remember anything, whether it had happened
or not; but my faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I
cannot remember any but the things that never happened. It is sad to
go to pieces like this but we all have to do it.

I guess you have more mail folders than I do, because I don't have to
scroll in order to see them all.

Yes, I have not only a lot of accounts, but also within them a lot of
folders dedicated to one person/topic. For example, within my main
account I have "Filed Mail", and then within that I have a folder for
former work associates (each by name) and another folder under "Filed
Mail", for example, titled "Other Friends", and within that I have a
dedicated folder for each name. I have another folder titled "Family",
and within that I have a folder dedicated to each family member by name.

I also have folders dedicated to each forum I post on.

Quite a tree structure, but it allows me not only to keep organized
("where was that email from my son that had . . .?") rather than
tediously searching and relying on a faded memory, but WITH
QUICKFOLDERS, to access those folders instantly.

Cool. That's one of the things I like about TB (and FF), is that people
with different needs have different options to satisfy those needs.
Your extension wouldn't do anything for me, but I'm happy for you that
it satisfies your needs.

Really? Presumably you were referring to the folder tabs feature in TB3?
Not quite the same as QuickFolders, methinks, or am I missing something?
