Hi All, and thanks for your assistance to we poor users.

Sending messages to certain SMTP servers fails with this pop-up window:

"Enter credentials for <myemailaddress> on smtp.gmail.com"
(green ball) "https//accounts.google.com/o/noscript"
"You've reached this page because we have detected that Javascript is
disabled in your browser. The page you attempted to load cannot display
properly if scripts are disabled.
"Please enable scripts and retry the operation or go back in your browser."

Comment: "Javascript is disabled in your browser"? This is Thunderbird,
not a browser. I don't even know how (or why) to disable JS in
Thunderbird, and further, I don't have JS disabled in my browser (if
indeed something is trying to open my browser).

What I've already done: I've searched the Internet (using both
DuckDuckGo and Google) for the string
Thunderbird "Enter credentials for"
and have found no joy.

Is anyone else getting such a message?

I assume that it has something to do with using Google's SMTP server.
I'm currently attempting to find a way to NOT use Google for SMTP, and
I've posted a message to this list to that effect, but I thought that
other people may be having this problem and so, I seek comments.

Regards,
Mark.

JavaScript has been disabled in TB since version 3,1.

Good for you. You zoomed right in on the trouble. Gmail SMTP servers
apparently don't like my OAuth2. I'm trying to find a way to avoid the
Gmail SMTP altogether and use the SMTP provided by Warner Cable for all
connections (I run 30 SMTP client-instances), but I can't figure out
what the "Default Server" is or how to set it. I've searched
"Thunderbird Configuration", about:config (aka "Configuration Editor"),
and 'prefs.js' but have found no joy. Oh, I've searched the Internet, too.

OK, what TB version you running. It has to be new enough to support OAuth2.
You set the default in Account Settings > Outgoing, picking the server you
want and using the set default button.

TBird version 45.8.0. It's the latest that Linux Mint will install via
"Update Manager". I believe that's controlled by the Ubuntu maintainers.
Note: I did not intentionally set OAuth2, TBird 45.8.0 did, so if that's
wrong, TBird screwed the pooch.

The first choice in "Account Settings" > "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" list
is "Use Default Server". I've posted another thread to this mail-list
(subject: "Use Default Server" question -- Where do I set the default
SMTP server?) requesting help finding how to set "Default Server".

Have you tried

Consider:
* Most state mandate that drivers have liability insurance.
* Employers are mandated to have worker's compensation insurance.
* If you live in a flood zone, flood insurance is mandatory.
* If your home has a mortgage, fire insurance is mandatory.

Why then is mandatory health insurance so bad??
