This would happen even if I uninstalled and reinstalled. I ran a full
scan for virus. Nothing. I powered off, reinstalled, maybe I could get
in the first time, but then it would happen again. I deleted profile,
ran a disk wipe to wipe free space. That didn't work either.
I cleaned registry I don't know how many times. But after each removal,
I would clean registry. There were some entries relating to TB that
would get cleaned up.
I finally reinstalled XP, formatting the drive in the process. I did
this twice today. Not a happy camper.
Right now, I have it installed and not using the folders, etc from the
old profile. I think something in there is confusing TB.. But I don't
know what.
Any ideas?

good greif, you are kidding, right?
I'm sorry, but that is the silliest solution you could have come up with.

try using google, maybe or look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use
Nothing showed up as being running in Applications, processes or using
process explorer.
Thanks for the link. I didn't Google for a solution.
I still think something in the old profile is confusing TB. I just don't
know what it could be...
Did you look for a file called "parent.lock" in your TB profile? If you
find it (while TB is closed) delete it. This is the most common cause of
the problem you describe.
Dave
Great. Thanks. Located it and will delete it next time it happens.
