Some of my questions will no doubt have been asked and answered before,
but please bear with me while I get going with TB3.
Here are my initial questions:
1. Am I right in assuming that the (apparently incompatible) AboutConfig
add-on is no longer required and that I can/should uninstall it? Can
someone remind me how to get the info without the add-on?
2. Am I right in assuming that the (apparently incompatible)
AttachmentReminder add-on is no longer required and that I can/should
uninstall it?
3. Am I right in assuming that the (apparently incompatible)
AttachmentSizes add-on is no longer required and that I can/should
uninstall it?
4. In TB2 I started using AttachmentExtractor in preference over
Attachment Tools (which I had disabled). In any case, since Attachment
Tools doesn't seem compatible with TB3 I'm minded to uninstall it. Any
comments?
5. Am I right in assuming that the (apparently incompatible) Get All
Mail Button add-on is no longer required and that I can/should uninstall it?
6. One of my key add-ons is QuickText. TB3 doesn't find an update for
version 0.9.9.9, but I see that 0.9.10.1 is available from
<http://extensions.hesslow.se/extension/4/Quicktext/>. Any
comments/advice before I update? Will by existing QuickText entries be
compatible?
7. Another one of my key add-ons is QuickMove. No update appears to be
available for TB3. Is it possible to force compatibility (e.g. via
Nightly Tester Tools, assuming this tried and tested route is still
available in TB3)?
Sorry about the plethora of questions, and thanks in advance for your help.

Oh dear - that's disappointing - I find it very useful.
Do you know whether there are plans to update it, or is there an
alternative?

Perhaps I better start a separate thread on this or contact the author
before upgrading in order to prevent losing my entries.

Mmmm, overriding compatibility with Nigthly Tester Tools claims appears
to have made it compatible, but it doesn't actually seem to work :-(

QuickFolders appears to be an alternative - see comments at

This extension is, sadly, not compatible and the built in version is
about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. The whole point is lost
because it does not stop you sending the message with no attachment
unless you notice the bar that pops up silently at the bottom of the
screen and click Remind Me Later. If I could remember to do that I could
just as easily remember to add the attachment in the first place! You
could request an update from nanotube on his Sourceforge site, or add a
comment to the to bug which he has already added a message at :-
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=518215
This version of Thunderbird is the flakiest that they have released in
the long time we've both been posting in here, and displays perfectly
the tendency to add new bells and whistles whilst neglecting features
long over due for fixing and, indeed, manages to introduce more
regressions.

Bob

Hi Bob
Thanks for your comments. I haven't followed all the recent discussions
re. TB2 vs. TB3 but I'm kind of aware of how some long-standing users
feel about TB3, but I decided to bite the bullet and I'm probably going
to stick with TB3 now. I see you went back to 2.0.0.23, right?

There's another bug - I see what you mean, it shows 2.0.0.23 in the
headers, but, no, I'm actually using 3.0.2.
Having switched, and found out just how bad this version is, I was
tempted to go back, but I guess that a few of the bugs will be fixed, so
on the grounds that at some point support for v. 2.x will cease and I
will have to upgrade anyway, I decided to stay with it. I've now managed
to get it more or less back to where it was in v. 2.x by disabling most
of the new rubbish (particularly the indexing that slowed it nearly to a
halt) and swapping and changing extensions, so it's not too bad now.
Exit stage left singing (hopefully) "Things can only get better".

It shows 3.0.2 alright for me, so why not for you?
Something to do with Mnenhy, perhaps?

I think I will probably find the index(ing) useful. TB3 is currently
still indexing my huge mail archive, but even while it is doing it TB3
seems perfectly usable, and I'm hoping that the impact on performance
will be negligible once the initial indexing operation is complete.

That's another weird one - but Mnenhy has always been there in the
headers, despite the fact that I don't use it, and never have done. As
it doesn't interfere with Thunderbird's functioning, that one doesn't
worry me too much.
Very odd!

It is Mnenhy-related. Did you ever install it and later
uninstall it (without using it)? In any event, try the Config Editor
fix given here:

I can't ever remeber installing it - but it's possible - I've used
Thunderbird for many years. Maybe I installed it and decided it was not
for me. Anyway, the fix worked - thanks a lot.
