Hi,
I have recently migrated from MS Outlook, the one feature I miss a lot is
the column sorting way. I would prefer to have my column sorted ascending
for the sender and descending for the date in a group view. Is it possible?
Also I used to edit the subject of the received mail to remember what has
been done to the mail or for small notes to the mail. Is there any way to
edit a subject of the received mails?

Tbird only sorts on one category in the thread pane. To edit subjects, You
need to find an add-on extension.

As Ron K. has already replied, TB can only sort on one column at
a time. As for ascending/descending, you can toggle that by clicking
on the header of the already-selected column.

What version of TB are you using? There is an extension named TB
Header Tools that can do that for TB 1.x and 2.x. There is also a
version that was modified by a third party (not the original
developer) in an attempt to make it work with TB3, but reports are
that it doesn't work. Both versions are available at
