I have been using kmail, and found a nice feature that I rely on that
does not appear to be in Thunderbird. Not only can I see the number of
unread messages in a folder, but also the total number of messages in
that folder. I have not found how to do this. Is there a place in
options, etc. where I can add this, or is this a feature request?

Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Show expanded columns ....
Then select the options you want to see.

This was covered a couple of days back in the thread "Displaying count
of messages in each folder"

You will then have a drop down icon from which you can pick total.

Look at the lower right corner of the ap. Shows unread and total there.

Good point.
One of the many things I do automatically (that is, without thinking
about it) when I do an install.
