My system: Windows 10 x64, Thunderbird 38.5.1
Hi guys,
I've replaced MS Exchange/Outlook with a Dovecot, Postfix, Sogo and
Thunderbird Solution in our company.
My users and I are happy with it :)
Now we have some little problems:
Since the beginning of the new solution I had added a Apache Solr
Search Server for full text searches to the Dovecot IMAP Server.
A typical INBOX of a user in the development department has e.g.
50000 (fifty-thousand) e-mails in it.
The Solr search server speeds up full text searches of the message
body in such an INBOX to 0.02 seconds. Local search needs multiple
minutes.
We use "Filter List... <CTRL+SHIFT+K>" /"Filter these
messages" for full text search of the message body.
The problem is Thunderbirds behaviour depending on the account
settings for "Synchronisation and Storage":
If the checkbox "Keep messages for this account on this computer" is
checked, Thunderbird forces its internal search settings to use the
local full text search on the local hard disk. Even if I select that
Thunderbird should just "Synchronise the most recent 30 days",
always the local search is utilised.
If the checkbox "Keep messages for this account on this computer" is
NOT checked, Thunderbird forces its internal search settings
to use the IMAP server based full text search.
My first solution was to setup Thunderbird to keep messages only on
the server and not local. But short time later I got complaints from
my users that mails with large attachments need very long time to
open. Some user even thought Thunderbird was broken ...
So I tried "Synchronise the most recent 30 days", but this also
disables server based search.
My question is: Is there any internal setting in Thunderbird
that I can change to force server based full text search?
If not, I'll request this feature, because it's absolutely required
with large mailboxes. They will always grow.
If not already done, the server based "across-mailbox-search" should
also get implemented.
Kind regards
T.B.
