transfer windows live mail to thunderbird

how do i transfer my windows live email over to thunderbird?
i did find an add on but it no longer works on thunderbird

Transferring mail and contacts from WLM is covered in this article:

The two add-ons, ImportExportTools (for mail) and MoreFunctionsForAddressBook (for contacts) are both compatible with TB 60.

Eml files can also be imported by drag and drop from an Explorer folder to a TB subfolder of Local Folders.

ImportExportTools wont install,keep getting a message saying that the files corrupted

Delete the install package, download a fresh one, and install that.


Or follow Steve's advice. NB that you can highlight a block of messages
and drag the whole block.

That can happen if you are accidentally trying to install it in Firefox. Right-click the link to the xpi file, Save Link As..., download, and then Install Add-on from File in TB Add-ons Manager.

Just add the account to Thunderbird, and it should pick up your messages
from the server.

1. Press the <Alt> key to display the menu bar.
2. Go to File-->New-->Existing_Mail_Account.
3. Enter your outlook.com account data. Thunderbird will automatically
detect the correct service settings.
4. After you're done adding the account, click on the Inbox. Thunderbird
will load your folders and messages from the server.
