Ever since Thunderbird upgraded itself to version 60, none of my most useful add-ons work any more. Without them, Thunderbird isn't a tenth of the product it was, so in effect this is a massive downgrade. Is it possible to upgrade to a pre-version-60 version of Thunderbird?

Possible, but not recommended and no longer supported.

The latest Thunderbird 60.6.1 was just released to fix these security
vulnerabilities found in Firefox code which is shared with Thunderbird.

What add-ons no longer work? Have you searched addons.thunderbird.net to
see if there are any replacements?

Tried updating from Thunderbird's add-ons manager?

I use Lightning, Provider for Google Calendar and CompactHeader. They
all still work.

Backup your FF profile and then go to this link:

<http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/>

Download the version you want to install and see if it works for you.  Some websites might give you trouble for using their site with old versions but you can use your alternative browser in these circumstances.  Next Month new Edge browser is coming out and it is based on Chromium based engine so if you are fond of Google products then you'll need Windows 10 v1903 next month.  I like Edge but I don't like Google so I'll have a decision to make.

OOP!!!!!  I misread your post.  You wanted Thunderbird while the link I provided is for FF so please ignore my post.

Or you might mention the addons that you lament are not working, so
people can perhaps give you alternatives.

**ALWAYS**Backup the profile folder (notably those mbox files) before
doing things like that. Then you can uninstall the new Thunderbird,
download an old version from http://ftp.mozilla.org, and install it.

The chance of success is high. Remember: BACKUP FIRST to avoid surprises.

BTW, if those add-ons failed after you went back, just remove and
re-install those updated add-ons.
