Thunderbird 2 now using "msf" format (not mbox)???

A friend of mine just claimed that Thunderbird 2 is using the "msf"
format for storing messages (e-mails) instead of the long-used mbox
format. Is this true?

He then goes on to complain that since Thunderbird has no [adequate]
export/import function (with mbox, he could at least use - cumbersome -
scripts), that it is now too difficult/impossible to e.g. export a
folder of e-mails for use on another system or mail client. He would
like to know how import/export of e-mails and folders is to be done now?

Thanks for any insight!

So you're saying that Thunderbird 2 is still using the mbox format, and
my friend's claim was erroneous? (I should have recognized "msf" as
being the index file :-[ ).

Thanks. I'll pass that on to my friend. :-)

I clicked on links provided. in second link it appear to imply that
Mozilla products no longer appear to use mbox.

no wonder that adobe Acrobat only allows non Mozilla products, Eudora,
Entourage and others to directly email pdf's

But not with in Acrobat there is a feature to do so within acrobat and
it does not allow use of any mozilla based email client. Throws up a
error. something about not an mbox compliant email client.

Works for me. It opens a compose window in TB and the pdf is there as an
attachment and the name is in the subject window.

Are you dense? Steve just said he does it. Further he says he does it quite regularly. What you don't believe him?

Throws up a error. something about not an mbox compliant email client.
BTW, WRT sending email, no mbox is involved. So why would Adobe know nor care about mbox files?!? It makes absolutely no sense. So instead of saying "it says something about <X>" go and reperform the problem, capture the actual error message and report back - instead of just pulling something out of your ass.

I've run across an number of programs that do that same thing. Has to do
with some Windows library function that sees only Microshaft procucts!!

Within Thunderbird (or SeaMonkey for that matter) I can attach and send
pdf's up to the limit of my ISP's mailbox limitations.

What I am referring to is that other applications such as Adobe Acrobat
that have a feature to send PDF's directly by email. will not use any
variety of Mozilla product because they are not considered mbox compliant.

If you have Acrobat Pro open a PDF then locate and click on email file
(Pdf).

if you have set to use TB as your email client you will receive a
message "Client not recognized as Mbox compliant".

if you have installed choices are Eudora, Mailsmith, Outlook Express, or
Entourage. No mozilla product is in the list.

I don't know one way other the other. But the description in the last
URl was for a Plugin to convert Thunderbird files to mbox complaint
files. So what am I to assume if there is a plugin designed to make
thunderbird files mbox complaint.

Glad I am not crazy. Although its in reference to Acrobat Professional
Mac 7.0.9 I suppose they have a bias towards MS products.

If you have Acrobat Pro open a PDF then locate and click on email file (Pdf).
I don't have Acrobat Pro so I can't do this. I don't know why I'd want to either. The other guy has already reported that he does this all the time. Why would I not believe him?

if you have set to use TB as your email client you will receive a messageĀ  "Client not recognized as Mbox compliant".
Do you even know what an mbox format is? Here's a clue. It's simply email messages concatenated together. It's a storage format after email has been received not before it is sent. As such how and why would/should Acrobat Pro care how the email will be received after it was sent? IOW think man! Think!

if you have installed choices are Eudora, Mailsmith, Outlook Express, or Entourage. No mozilla product is in the list.
And yet we have a person here who is telling you that he does exactly that - used Acrobat and emails PDF files through TB...

I don't know one way other the other. But the description in the last URl was for a Plugin to convert Thunderbird files to mbox complaint files. So what am I to assume if there is a plugin designed to make thunderbird files mbox complaint.
Ah, I read it as "MboxImport" which would indicate to me that other file formats are being "imported" to mbox format. But hey, don't take my word for it. Dig down into your TB profile itself, locate where the mails files are stored and look at them!!! Look up what a "mbox format" is. Dang they match! Imagine that! (The simple step of verifying your suspicions is very often overlooked....)

I meant from within Acrobat. Click on the FILE menu and select ATTACH AS
EMAIL... and it brings up the TBird compose window. Works every time :-)

Well, some DO try to call OE, even though I don't currently have it on
this system, unless my last Windows Update put it on here, AGAIN. Sure
wish they wouldn't DO that...
Lots of applications that directly call IE to display their websites.
Then I have to run AdAware to delete the dozens of tracking cookies that
IE seems to love to install.

I've tried to find where to set to use Thunderbird in Acrobat Pro 7 and
Acrobat 8. I get the sme message if I try to email or try to send
document for comment either by email or firefox for browser. I've even
looked in the help files no reference to setting of email client or web
browser. Must be a mac thing. I'll have to ask in the Acrobat newsgroups
to find out.
