hi all,

i'm looking for a solution to integrate Thunderbird with the Zimbra mail
server as seamless as possible.
currently i can use mail and calendar functions correctly in sync using
the Lightning extension, but i'm finding it very difficult to do the
same with the address book, in particular with sub-lists/sub-groups of
contacts.

tried with the SOGo connector but the sub-lists sync is not implemented
yet, and i have many users with large address books and many sub-lists,
so manual creation is no part of the solution.

the best working option i found was the Zindus extension, but it's
outdated, nobody seems to be working on it and my programming skills are
too basic to help with the work. here is the link to the code:
https://github.com/zindus/addon

so, i'd like to know if there is anybody using correctly
Thunderbird+Zimbra in sync or if there is any other option i'm missing?

thanks in advance.

Have you looked into a LDAP server as an alternative?

hi, thanks for the reply.
i don't know if i understand your question correctly, what do you mean
using LDAP server as an alternative?
already tried the connection to zimbra's LDAP suggested in the zimbra
wiki: https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Mail_Client_LDAP_Configuration
it uses the LDAP server included in Zimbra to "read" the global address
book. although that is very useful it does not provide the sync function
as Zindus extension.

hi again, any other ideas about zimbra/thunderbird integration?

thanks

Maybe this helps as an alternative

-- the Zindus is outdated and afaik there is not one taking over for
further development
-- the TB addressbook has it's very own data implementation, including
the "List" features. afaik there is no other system supporting that format.
-- using "categories" was an idea to overcome the TB "List" handling,
but plain TB doesn't support that (well). Have a look at an addon for
this (and much more for the TB AB):
https://freeshell.de/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html

Just to understand: which value gives the zimbra/TB integration?
